Petersburg Rising - Petersburg, Virginia, once the home of “the largest free black community” in America, the historic city where Steven Spielberg captured in the film the last meeting between President Lincoln and General Grant to confirm the end of the Civil War, the iconic city that once gave rise to great civil rights leaders, and America’s first black president during Reconstruction, fell to become the poster child of racial inequality, poverty, and helplessness. This documentary anchors its hope and change belief that after anger and protest consume our urban centers because of racial inequality and social injustice, the road to recovery begins with education.
